About the program
For this special Lunar New Year presentation, Rourou Ye will share works that draw on Chinese culture as well as Rourou's experiences as an immigrant within the United States. Within her choreography, Rourou recalls the far-away sensations of "home" while drawing on her multi-cultural identities. The retrospective program will begin with previous works by Rourou that explore western contemporary dance with Chinese classical movement elements and aesthetics, as well as works that hybridize different Chinese folk dance styles while prioritizing the individual expression of contemporary dance. The program will conclude with the premiere of a new choreographic work that responds with movement and images to the album 42 days by Southeast of Rain, a band consisting of two Chinese contemporary musicians. Together, they recall their artistic memories from the motherland of China.
The program will feature a special performance from Southeast of Rain during a brief interlude in the program. READ MORE
